Supporting Learner Mental Health Across Wales

Introduction
Your college or university is part of telyn
The National Learner Mental Health Partnerships Programme — a Wales-wide effort to make sure learners get the right mental health support, when they need it.
telyn brings colleges, universities and the NHS closer together, so that mental health support is joined-up, informed, and built around what learners actually need.
Impact
What this means for you
If you access counselling or mental health support through your institution, some information about that support may be shared as part of telyn.
This helps your institution:
- Understand what kind of support learners need most
- Spot patterns early, so they can step in before things escalate
- Plan and improve services based on real, current need
- Make sure support is there when and where it's needed

Fully protected
Your data is protected
This is the important part: information shared as part of telyn cannot be traced back to you
- Your data is never identifiable - no one can see your name or work out who you are from it
- It’s used only to understand overall patterns and needs across the learner population, not to track individuals
- It exists to improve the support available to you and other learners, not to monitor you
- Make sure support is there when and where it's needed
Sharing this data doesn't change your confidentiality with your counsellor or support worker. It simply means the wider picture — patterns across many learners — helps shape better mental health support for everyone.
Why
Why this matters
Every college and university in Wales working together means support can be planned more effectively — spotting trends, catching needs early, and making sure resources go where they're needed most.
telyn is part of a wider, long-term effort (funded by Medr and aligned with Wales' national wellbeing strategies) to build a mental health support system that's stronger, more joined-up, and built around learners.
Want to find out more?
